Galentines: Celebrate With Your Gal Pals

I love friendship.

Like, a lot.

And for good reason. I’ve been blessed with some of the world’s best, kindest, most generous friends. Ok, enough sappy-talk 😉

A few years ago, my friend Shanti was the first person who really introduced me to the holiday that is “Galentines”. She and another friend, Aisha, threw the cutest gathering filled with sweet treats, and I’ve been in love ever since!

Galentine’s Day
[ gal-uhn-tahyns dey ]

Observed on February 13, the day before Valentine’s Day,
Galentine’s Day celebrates platonic friendships, usually among women.
It originated on the show Parks and Recreation.

But as is the case with other seemingly “trendy” Pinterest fads, it can be intimidating!

So, to combat that, I want to help you celebrate Galentines, any day in February that you and your Gal Pals can do it!

Below, I made a list of different ways, from casual to elaborate, you can share the love 🩷

💛 Crafty Galentines

  • Take a Painting Class: Make a masterpiece while enjoying painting in a low-risk setting. It’s easy enough, a beginner can do it.
  • Pottery: Create matching coffee mugs or paint your fave phrases or shapes on a piece of clay.

💛 Fancy or Foody Galentines

  • Host a Tea Party! I recently discovered a tea house close by, but this is simple enough to host in your own home if you’ve got the space!
  • Pink & Red Brunch: Choose a delicious place to have brunch that is near a place where you can take pictures together! Dress is matching colors and go to town with a fun photo shoot.

💛 Long Distance Galentines

  • FaceTime & Popcorn: Plan a catch-up call with your text group and end it by sharing one thing you appreciate about each other!
  • Virtual Movie Night: Remember the phase of the pandemic where we all watched Netflix together from miles away? No? Just me?

Here are some tips for planning your dream Galentines, whether it’s your first time or you’ve been doing this for a while:

  • It can be big or small. 3 friends or 15, Galentines is Galentines 🙂
  • Plan it with a friend! Put your heads together.
  • Take the pressure off! It does not have to be Insta-worthy to feed your soul. Some of the best memories I have with friends are not recorded on my camera roll, and that’s fine by me.

If you are in the DC area, I am hosting a Galentines event, and I’d love for you to join! It’s all for a good cause, too.

The theme is A Bright Galentines: Make Candles and Make Friends. The city can be a hard place to connect – I’m inviting all of my new friends in the area (and friends of friends!) to come and connect!
